Fone Surfboard Test 2011 - Fish, Signature, Surf, Minimalibu, SUP & Gun
Fone is very famous for their extensive range of different surfbaords and also fort he year 2011 we have revised and improved all models! Since we will have 6 different lines of boards in different sizes I want to give you a short sum up, so you can better choose of what suits you best!All surfboards are manufactured out of very high-quality bamboo, which grows astounding 20-30 cm a day till it is 4m high. And evene though we are really working the boards hard on and off the water, neither me nor Mitu or any of my team members managed to break one yet… This proves their quality!
The 6 surboard lines all cost 789€ and consist of the Fish, Signature, Surf, Gun MiniMalibu and the StandUpPaddle Boards. I will start from small to big, so I will go off with the Fish…
The Fish is an absolute light wind Surf Board, which is meant for playing in waves and flat water mainly in light wind conditions. It has barely any scoop rocker, so it planes extremely early and you can ride a 10m kite in 10 knots! The Fish exists in 3 different sizes depending of the riders weight: 5,2 5,4 and 5,6. I use the 5,6 for myself.
The Signature Line exists in 2 sizes, one for lighter ond for heavier riders: 5,8 and 5,10. The Signature Surboards are the perfect boards for fast, barreling reefbreaks, where you need a very quick and stable board. I use the Signature 5,10 only with straps, and mostly in dangerous waves such as One-Eye or Punta Preta. They are very fast, but this is what you need when you get chased down the line by a 4-5m barreling monster!
The Surf Line consists of 3 different sizes: 6,0 6,2 and 6,4. I use the 6,2 and I mostly ride it strapless, however you can ride these boards just as you wish. Great conditions are bigger but not that fast waves, which you will find a lot on this planet. I really like the Surf, especially when I can go play with it without straps in higher waves, that do not immediately destroy me when I crash :-)
The Gun only exists in 6,9 and you basically only use it in super high breaks, that require an extremely fast board. So far I used the gun only a few times, especially when the waves get above 6m and break over reef! Deeeeaaadddd gum it, you better ride as fast as you can!!! The Minimalibu comes in 7,0 and I use it mostly in light wind conditions for waves, when the Fish is just too flat. I also love the Malibu for surfing surfing… so you will always find it in my luggage!!!
The StandUpPaddle Board (SUP) are totally trendy at the moment, as they are really easy to use and heaps of fun. Fone will bring them in 3 different sizes, but the details are not sure yet. We tested all kinds of different protos here in Mauritius both with kites, and with the paddle, and it was awesome fun!!!
My surfboard quiver contains the 5,6 Fish, 5,10 Signature, 6,2 Surf and the Minimalibu. Here on Mauritius we all got to test all the boards to its max, and the 2 weeks flew by like nothing. I want to thank everybody for this great meeting, and wish everybody safe travels! For me this means flying home for 16h then spend 36h at home and leaving straight to Turkey for a week! I have also used the time to edit my next video with some great Freestlye scenes from Brazil. As soon as the internet is fast enough (probably tomorrow) I will upload it for you!
I have also bult up a Gallery with all the pictures from the products and action from here in Mauritius! Thanx alot to Kathrin for letting me use her pictures!!!
